As a cyclist, runner, swimmer, triathlete, or something else, you are a racer. All racing has a cost. For those who are driven to compete, especially at longer distances, the cost is high: time spent training; money for races, memberships, equipment, and travel; energy that could be spent at work, with your family, or serving others; and other resources that sometimes can’t even be counted. It is expensive! Therefore, we have a simple question for you, "Why do you race?"
We could have a good discussion regarding the merit of each of the above, perhaps even labeling some "good" or "bad" reasons to race. Some justify the cost, some may not. In reality though, each of the above, on its own, may not be a great reason to race. The reason: each of the above is temporary. Whether the perceived or achieved rewards last for a day or until you die, it will likely eventually mean nothing in the eternal scheme of things.
Ask yourself, "How can I race for something eternal?" Then answer is simple, to be in a personal relationship with God and race for Him!
How do we get this answer? The Bible has the answer.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism states that, "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever. We heartily agree. We race to glorify our Lord!
How do we do this?
Worship – We worship God through our training and racing!
Build His Church – We experience fellowship with other believers, loving and encouraging them as we worship together through sport!
Make Disciples – We help others move closer to the Lord, either through witnessing to non-believers or sharpening our brothers and sisters in Christ!
We race for eternal purposes, worshiping our Lord and steadfastly pursuing His mission of making disciples of all nations. We strive to compete according to 1 Corinthians 10:31, "... whatever you do, do everything for God’s glory."
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
1 Cor 10:31
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-2
